Sand Stroller – Snow Goose
Limited Edition of 200, 21″ x 29″ - $170.00
Open Edition 8″ x 10″ – $30.00
Snow geese, when migrating from breeding grounds in the Arctic tundra, arrive in large flocks of hundreds of birds. Mature Snows have a white body with black wing tips. The legs, feet and bill are pink-orange. The bill has a blackish “grin-patch” between the upper and lower beak. Often a rusty stain on the face comes from the minerals of tundra ponds.
In the composition, “Sand Stroller,” light is used to enhance the wave-like patterns on the sand’s surface. The soft shadows instill a peaceful tranquility on shore away from the frenzy of the flock. The imprints in the sand suggest a leisurely walk. The stance of the goose, as it pauses alertly with head high, empowers it to take time to observe the surrounding solitude. The sun on its back conducts warmth and inner contentment. Various lights and darks, as well as feather details, define the body. Black on white and shades between are colourful, yet soothing. The drawing creates a mood for reflection, a time for serenity, and a connection between subject and viewer.
