The wolf is now most at home in the wilderness of North America. Sometimes such terms as “timber wolves” and “grey wolves” are used but all wolves belong to the same species, Canis lupus. Grey and black animals may be born as litter mates. Wolves, like people, are intensely social. Except for the occasion “lone wolf”, they generally live in groups of about six.

Like humans, wolves must eat to survive and to survive is as much their right as it is ours. Wolves are more successful hunting large hoofed mammals in packs during heavy snowfall. In the summer packs split into smaller groups as small animals come out of hibernation, are more available, and are less dangerous to kill.

In the composition, “Silent Stalker”, an aging lone wolf sights a hare and with cunning intensity advances silently.
