Freedom Bound – Whitetail Deer
Limited Edition of 200, 18″ x 24″ – $150.00
Open Edition 8″ x 10″ – $30.00
Whitetails have smaller ears than mule deer and their antlers consist of a main beam with upward tines. The tail is bushier and longer than that of the muley. The underpart of the tail is snow-white, and when deer are spooked, it shoots straight up with the white hairs flared outward, hence the name whitetail.
The over all colour of whitetails is reddish-brown in the summer which changes to a grayish-brown in the winter. The belly is white, and white encircles the snout behind the nose. The inside of the ears is white, and there is white around the eyes, on the chin and on the throat.
In the composition, “Freedom Bound”, whitetails take flight vanishing through the trees like ghosts. The laid-back ears and erect tail indicates they are alarmed as they bolt for freedom. In a split second they are gone, bounding over the deadfall, zigging and zagging. The silence, temporarily interrupted by their explosion, returns and all that is heard is the wind whispering its tune.
